Far away from home

The universe is mysterious and fascinating. Ever since I was a child I wondered what is out there. I love to imagine what it looks like on other planets and in other galaxies. There is so much that is yet to be explored and we can only use our imagination to get a glimpse of what is out there.

In 2014 I was so inspired by Carl Sagan and Neil deGrasse Tyson, that I actually took a course in basic astrophysics at Uppsala University. That was awesome! Until they started to talk in terms of math. Then I was out! But I survived the first term. I am very happy for that.

Somewhere Else is a tribute to the wonders of space and to a astronomer I really respect, Carl Sagan.

Pale blue dot

Somewhere Else is inspired by Carl Sagan and his speech “Pale blue dot”. In 1990 he requested to turn around the camera of Voyager 1 to take a picture of the Earth. At that point the space probe was 6 million kilometers away. The picture was taken and the world was so, so, so small. Sagan’s reflections on the photograph spoke deeply to my heart. And even though I heard the speech hundreds of times, it still brings tears to my eyes every time I hear it. In this video you will get to see the painting in close and hear parts of Sagan’s lovely words.
